Author Stacy Lynn joined the Lincoln Group of DC on December 9, to discuss her book Loving Lincoln: A Personal History of the Women who Shaped Lincoln’s Life and Legacy. She also talked about her long career researching and cataloging Abraham Lincoln's paper and then engaged in a discussion with LGDC members.
Lynn is a professional Lincoln historian and editor who says she grew frustrated that male historians often overlooked Lincoln's love for, and friendships with, women and the role that women played in shaping Lincoln's legacy. The result is a book that covers Lincoln's mother and step-mother, his ill-fated romantic interest Ann Rutledge, his wife Mary Todd Lincoln, the sculptor prodigy Vinnie Reams, biographers Ida Tarbell and Ruth Painter Randall, and many others.
Lynn, who has written previously under the name Stacy Pratt McDermott, holds a Ph.D. in American History from the University of Illinois, and has been an editor of the papers of Abraham Lincoln and Jane Addams.
