The Lincoln Group of DC and the Civil War Roundtable of the District of Columbia hosted a joint birthday celebration of Abraham Lincoln's 217th birthday on February 10, 2026. The group met in-person and virtually to celebrate with a special guest.
Frederick Douglass portrayer Nathan Richardson joined the groups to discuss the connection between Douglass, Lincoln, and the Declaration of Independence. The program was especially timely for the Lincoln Group since we have launched Lincoln250.org, a website designed to ensure that Lincoln’s views on the Declaration are discussed as the United States of America marks the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence in 2026.
Richardson is a published author, performance poet, and Frederick Douglass historian. Nathan is in the 14th year of his Frederick Douglass speaking tour - a living history performance that captures the physical, spiritual, and intellectual essence of the former slave, writer, orator, and abolitionist Douglass.
