About the Event

The Lincoln Group returns to the American Film Institute Theatre! Following the successful showing of the Lincoln Cycle in February, the Lincoln Group is pleased to co-sponsor a special showing of one of the nation’s most important and admired films: Mr. Smith Goes to Washington. Directed by Frank Capra, this 1939 movie stars Jean Arthur and a young James (Jimmy) Stewart. The film propelled Stewart into the mega-star we remember him as today. Nominated for eleven Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor, the movie won for Best Original Story. More importantly for the centennial event, the Lincoln Memorial plays a key role, serving as motivation for the naïve Senator Jefferson Smith to take a stand against corruption.

Join Lincoln Group members for this inspiring film at the AFI Silver Theatre in Silver Spring, a block from the Silver Spring Metro station. Regular admission prices apply and the AFI maintains its requirement to provide evidence of vaccination and masks must be worn inside the theater complex. For more details and to buy advance tickets, see https://silver.afi.com/Browsing/Movies/Details/f-0100003428. You can also buy tickets at the door.
